My 1st X-Wing Battle Report

With X-Wing becoming rather popular in my house with my son, it was about time that I did my first small, battle report in regards to tonight's game. Below you can see the lists that we were using. As I was taking on playing with the Empire, and my son was taking on the challenge of being the rebels. Now from the start it's not going to be all the bells and whistles, it's just a overview of what happened on the day.

The fluff
The game was set just after the film a new hope, when the Death star had just been destroyed and the rebels were making their way home, and in a last-ditch attempt they are ambushed by what was left of the remaining Empire forces nearby.

Keeping in theme I wanted to try something completely different and go for a smaller number of models. But on the other hand my son is pretty attached to his millennium falcon at the minute, so with that being said the tide was set for a very fun interesting game.

So nothing too fancy just a light-hearted fun game, don't be fooled by the below picture as my son can easily get very competitive, although I have been trying to work with him over recent months to enjoy the more fluffier side of things. And for him not to get too upset if he loses.

From the start my son decided that he would separate his millennium falcon and X-Wing, I think looking back something I don't think he will do in the near future. As it allowed me to focus directly on Skywalker for a single turn.

As he was easily destroyed, A lesson that I think he will no doubt remember.

So with only the millennium falcon left it was always going to be uphill for my son, although nonetheless he was still very excited about taking on the challenge.

But unfortunately over the next subsequent turns it was clear that the millennium falcon suffered quite a lot of damage at the hands of my Tie fighters, as we decided that the millennium Falcon returned back to base, just before it finally blew up.

I learnt so much, as my whole movement was completely wrong for the entirety of the game, every single turn my Tie's fighters managed to bump into each other. Which can be extremely frustrating although my son thought it very amusing.

Annihilation At Arkham 40k tournament Army Pics.

So I know the posts have been a bit light on the ground recently, but all for a good reason as, I attended a 40K tournament over the course of this weekend, with a mixed bag of results.

All of which will be highlighted in a future post, but for this one I thought I would show some of the armies that were on display and I played against over the weekend.

Arkham Gaming Centre is proud to host this Warhammer 40K tournament, run in conjunction with Jonny Fisher. This 2 day ranking 1750 point tournament will allow the best 40K players in Ireland North & South to make war across the tabletop.

One of the nicest SM armies on display over the weekend it just goes to show what can be achieved when you put a little bit of effort into your army and how well it looks on the table.

It's good to see that someone being a little bit more adventurous with Imperial guard taking blog

GN were heavily in attendance this weekend, especially when it came to those dreadnoughts

SM army list with quite some devastating firepower at its disposal, and it just so happened to be my first opponent on day 1.

Eldar always been a bit of a problem for me in the past, and it was no exception at this tournament, as I played this list in my game 3 game on day 1 , only to have victory snatched in the last turn by a tank shocking Falcon. Lesson learnt on this one.

Another opponent of mine on day 2 game 4, and probably the toughest list I fought over the course of the weekend, from start to finish it was all up hill for me and my opponent played extremely well, although at the end it was very close, and I could have easily won, holding more objectives if I had a little bit more luck.
but credit where credit is due for my opponent on winning.

This was the final game of the tournament day 2 game 5 Chaos SM for me pretty simple and straight forward although having 2 Demon Princes with lash you can never get too comfortable, but as always Stewart was a brilliant opponent.

Yes you're quite right and that is 1750 on the table of GN .

Dark Eldar as always doing the rounds at the minute.

Well for me it was a brilliant weekend coming 5th overall and winning best painted army, which I hope to post soon and if any of my opponents are reading this blog thanks for the great games and hopefully will meet soon on the tabletop, where I can dish out some revenge if I lost, only kidding.

Thank you to all the staff at Aakham as well as Johnny and AJ for organising and running things.

So until next time?

Planet Vesen 40k ladder Campaign Battle Report Ork V IG

A little while ago me and a friends played 3 games of 40k in a ladder campaign. all in the same day which turned out to be one of the best weekends I've had in a long time.

The games themselves would be at 500pts 1000pts and finally 1500pts, and below this was our first of many that day. For me this is the hobby at its best whenever you can play through a story that seems to take a life of its own, it holds great memories.

Naturally AJ played his old Guard armies, 3rd company and 4th company of the 32nd Vastadtian and even managed to squeeze in the new troop truck and Armoured car. The Campaign was against, My Da black tan tribe Orks on the planet Vesen in the horizon system, a system which lies spinward of Rynns World.

The Background

Ork forces under the leadership of a shadowy Warboss, Trackle Black Sekradda held the main Northern Continent and where threatening to push over the Sectung Line. The Crimson Fists, supported by guard units launched a series of Seize Ground initiatives in order to capture vital forward Obs Posts just south of the main ork advance.

With the Crimson Fists Job accomplished they moved off the planet, and Guard high command was eager to push into the orks further, beginning the slow and gruling task awaiting them to drive off the Orks. Trackle Black Sekradda Had other Ideas, Wishing to mount his own waaagh. In the First Night of the New Lunar Calender, when the twin moons where furthest away, Trackles Ork forces launched a series of pre dawn raids on the Imperial Bunker Complexes, Just as the Guard dispatched Supply collums to prepare front line units for the coming offencing. All across the Line The Comms Complexes where hit, not least of which was Bunker 214, a Vastadtian held installation... (and this was where our Campaign began!)

We played 3 Games over the space of the day what a weekend.

The Background
3 Months Later and with no push from the orks, the Imperial Obs posts had been reinforced, and Omega level Complexes with Comms relays mounted in each now stood in their place. The 3rd Battle Company of the Vastadtian 32nd held Complexes 214-218, supported by heavy weapons from 4th Company. A garrison just a click back from the line was the main staging post from which the 4th company could dispatch reinforcements or launch a fresh attack.

Game 1 Sabotage mission 500pts from the old 3 ed rulebook
(this is one of our favourite rule books for missions).

All seems quiet As the 32nd Vastadtian dig in knowing that their enemy was out there somewhere.

Ork kommandos sneaked up on their prey under the cover of darkness
and just as quickly as it started the alarm is raised warning of the immediate danger.

As all hell breaks loose with explosions ripping through the dawn sky

Then suddenly from nowhere a ork truck demolishing a wall in its path over the deafening noise of roaring engines.

Delivering its deadly cargo of boys

And then yet more appear from the dust mayhem and gunfire which it seem to surround the remaining guardsmen

The Orks scramble into the bunker, killing all in their path bloods blathering against walls bones crushed under their steel toe capped boots, complete devastation as they occupy the complex.

In the distance IG reinforcements arrive, but is it too late to make a difference. In a last-ditch attempt in hand-to-hand combat an officer was pretty much guaranteed his death was imminent.

With My Orks desperate for blood and victory, as a single Guardsman witnesses is comrades butchered to pieces, decides there is no other option but to run for his life, but his death was guaranteed from the sky
as a death copter flew overhead.

Orks won and destroy the bunker complex. Game 2 Ambush mission 1000pts (taken from the necron section of the Battle Missions book)

which I will post very soon ------transmission ends-------

Good Evening Sports Fans And Welcome To Today's Game Of Blood Bowl

Bood Bowl has always been a game that I have never quite been able to play as often as I really like to, over the years, because  It seems to get overlooked in my hobby schedule. So with that in mind I was eager to get one well underway and last Sunday was one of the first times that me and AJ had dedicated an afternoon.

So they say blood bowl is a game of 2 halfs and this is a small report of the first that we played on the day. From the start this isn't a blow by blow account, so I apologise if that's what you're expecting it's more showing off pictures than anything else so sorry, if that isn't your cup of tea.

I'm not being fooled by AJ's smile!

Between my Orks and AJ's dwarfs and with the rivalry and smack talk already beginning to take centre stage it was all about getting the game underway, and as you can no doubt see with perfect gaming weather outside i.e. with a gale force wind out side and heavy rain, it was time to get down to business.

So with the stadium, cramped to capacity and fans eager for blood it was time to get down to the action, and to go through the teams that took to the pitch.

My Orc Salute of The Jugger
4 Black Orc, 4 Orc Blitzers, 1 Orc Throwers, 2 Orc Lineman 3 Re-rolls, FF 1
Vs
AJ's The Barak Varr Begrudgers
2 Troll Slayer, 2 Blizter, 1 Runner, 6 Blocker, 3 Re-rolls, FF 1,30.00 GP in the bank

We decided that we would run a small league with 4 of our teams, it would be quite simple each team would play each other 2 times home and away, hopefully were going to rope in a few other people, but to get things up and running this was our first game.

So having rolled some dice it was decided that AJ would receive the kick,  It must be said that I have a little bit more experience with BB than AJ, having played online quite a lot recently. So I knew exactly what dwarfs where capable of , and with block heavily at there disposal, I was not underestimating what AJ dwarfs could accomplish, from the very start.

AJ played very cautiously which is one of the advantages that the dwarfs have with there slow speed they can afford to bulk up, giving AJ full credit he did rather well as you can see.

His dwarfs protect the ball at all times making it very difficult to penetrate the line.

For me this is probably one of the most important turns in the half, because I managed to get one of my Blitzers through and around the back of his line which hopefully would put a little bit more pressure on the ball, but with a little bit of skulduggery AJ managed to break free down the left-hand side of the pitch.

All of which left me a little bit overstretched unable to reinforce that side, enabling him to form a pocket quite securely with the ball in the middle for him to break free from.

And surprise surprise that's exactly what happened in turn 7 AJ's runner managed to break free heading straight for the end zone. The question is can I prevent and stop him.

Desperate times call for desperate measures so in my turn 8 I try to put as many tackles zones as physically possible around this little fellow. I also was lucky enough to seriously injure 1 of AJ's dwarf slayer's and suffered 1-M which was a great result considering, which hopefully, come in handy next half.

It all came down to a Dodge roll to see whether or not AJ could end the first
half 1 to 0, and now a drum roll please of course he did it was never in any doubt.

So that was the first half and how it happened blow by blow or thereabouts.

Keep posted hopefully I will have the other half soon.

ETC League 1 Battle Report Ork V Death Wing 1500pts

So, last week me and a very good friend headed off to Lisburn Gaming Club for the day, to try out our new ETC league system.

Basically every time you play a game of 40K using the ETC scenarios you work out victory points and tournament points, and your best five results go toward your overall ranking in the league. It also gives us much needed practice in regards to using the scenarios in the ETC as we hope to attend a tournament in a few weeks time at Arkam Gaming Centre.

Although there is a few rules and exceptions you can only play the same opponent twice in the same day and you must swap armies to make it fair. Also, after each game you must post a report to qualify your results on your blog within 7 days. Which in turn gives it a little bit of rivalry and smack talk.

So that's what we ended up doing, and this is a quick battle report of my first game.

The game was 1500 points using

primary objective- Seize Gronud
second objective-Annihilation
deployment- spearhead

My pretty simple and straightforward basically Kan wall list

Michael on the other hand took a very mean death Angel list.

The table in all its glory- some quite good fire points for Michael, I thought!

Table was very simple and straightforward. We rolled off to see who got the site with Michael winning and you can see his deployment below keeping everything in the centre maximising his first report.

For me this is when I made one of the biggest mistakes; deploying so closely together which ultimately give Michael the advantage when he started to fire his blast weapons.

Michael for a couple of turns successfully fired his ordnance and then moved back as I advanced. He then sent a squad of terminators into the fray.

On the other side things really did go bad for me, Micheal maximised his fast support with his land speeders to pretty much destroy that whole flank and with the advance of the terminator squad it only got pretty worse.
You can also just see in the far corner of the picture the advancing deep striking terminators from last turn. From behind my lines  he tried to serve and deliver the final blow in the next turn.

So the only option I had was to move forward and try to steal and hold the middle objective. And with six kans and a load of boys I was feeling pretty confident. Also you can see the terminators eagerly trying to get into combat.

This is where the game really started to turn in Michael's favour. With the arrival of his deep striking terminators they rolled really good results when moving through difficult terrain which meant they could get into combat. Another bit of good  luck for Michael!

So back to the centre point where things really started to heat up.  I easily took care of one squad of terminators that were sent in to try and see if they could hold off until reinforcements arrived but without success they were very easily butchered.

On the other side the flight was completely destroyed as Michael still managed to drop ordnance to try and soften up the works before reinforcements arrived.

Not really much to say, as the picture speaks for itself. Its just that the Orks just ran out of momentum although below I did manage to kill some vindicators in combat with the kans.

So with the tide finally turned. Things pretty much went from bad to worse.  I was pretty much going to be tabled by turn five. Although  I have managed to keep my Gretchen in reserve as they hadn't arrived to come on so hopefully I could steal a little objective. Knowing that the battle was over the Orks started to run away to fight another day.

Pretty devastating as Michael swept the board.

And probably the best bit in the game- Michael had completely forgot about the Gretchen coming on, which they did on the final turn and he assumed that he was about to table myself forgetting about the objective. Knowing this he moved everything forward to try prevent me claiming one so with them coming on I managed to contest, failing that I could have very easily won. I could have got the primary objective.

So that was it, probably not the best battle report you'll ever read but then it is what it is. I really enjoyed the day and after this game we played our second round swapping armies which I hopefully will post very soon.

So my first game resulted in-
We managed to draw the primary objective which resulted in 4 points each, thanks to my Gretchen, no one had the second objective, I scored 527 victory points. Michael scored 1460 victory points which meant in tournament points I scored 6- Michael scored 14.

Looking back with Michael forgetting about the Gretchen he could've easily scored 20 tournament points, if he had of managed to kill everything and tabling me but ultimately it was not the case.
