Hello all Over the last few weeks I have been playing battlewagon orks and I'm going to another tournament next week in Northern Ireland, and this is what I'm thinking about taking. I think it will give me a number of potential threats on the tabletop for my opponent to deal with, and there is still some units that I have not managed to play with, plus it can certainly on paper spit out alot of ork Dakka! Dakka!

Saturday, 2 March 2013

I have a 40k game tomorrow night, and it's Orks for the win.

And this is what I'm thinking about taking. I think it will give me a number of potential threats on the tabletop for my opponent to deal with, and there is still some units that I have not managed to play with. All of which will hopefully make it very difficult for him to win, plus it can certainly on paper spit out alot of ork Dakka! Dakka! and considering I'm against tau/eldar it's certainly not going to be easy.

My 40k ork speed freak's tournament 1850pts list for 6th

So most recently I have decided to play with the below list, with some good results so far, and with a 40k tournament coming up on the 20.01.13, I think I might go ahead and use it.

From the start it all really hinges on whether or not you get to go 1st, as it's quite scary. With having 6 trucks at your disposal, it really doesn't hang around, and can easily get into your enemies deployment zone very quickly from turn 1.

So here it is in all its glory

+ HQ + (140pts)

    * Warboss (140pts)
        Bosspole, Cybork Body, Power Klaw, Slugga, Warbike

+ Elites + (405pts)

    * Nobz (405pts)
        Painboy
        * Nob
            Choppa, Slugga, Warbike
        * Nob
            Choppa, Slugga, Warbike
        * Nob
            Choppa, Slugga, Warbike
        * Nob
            Big Choppa, Slugga, Warbike
        * Nob
            Big Choppa, Slugga, Warbike
        * Nob
            Bosspole, Choppa, Slugga, Warbike
        * Nob
            Bosspole, Power Klaw, Slugga, Waagh Banner, Warbike

+ Troops + (942pts)

    6x* Ork Boyz (157pts)
        * 12x Boy
            12x Shootas
        * Nob
            Bosspole, Power Klaw
        * Trukk
            Big Shoota, Boarding Plank, Reinforced Ram

+ Fast Attack + (360pts)

    3x* Dakkajet (120pts)
        (Waagh! Plane)
        2 Twin-linked supa shootas, Additional twin-linked supa shoota

Created with BattleScribe (http://www.battlescribe.net)

Below I will post up some pics of the game's that I played most recently against 2 friends of mine playing Imperial guard.

 Also it manages to put out an extreme amount of firepower from the boys in the trucks, as they successfully do drive-by shootings, it is probably the bit I love the most seeing your opponents face.

Also the Warboss and his nob bikers which can easily pretty much go toe to toe with anything that they might come across, and not forgetting about my 3 Dakkajet's overhead coming in on turn 2.

so when you put that altogether hopefully it can be very effective and catch my opponent off guard.

Well that's the idea anyway because as you well know being and 40k ork player sometimes it doesn't exactly go to plan, but as always I would love to hear some feedback.

My 500pts Ork Combat Patrol List

So with the new 40k 6th rules been released, I thought it might be a good idea to organise, a small 500pts 40k in 40 minutes Tournament with my local gaming group North Down Gamer's Hub that we can easily do in one nigth. It's not competitive, it will just give us the opportunity of playing 3 quick games that will in turn will give us the opportunity of learning the new rules.

Many moons ago, back in 4th Edition Warhammer 40,000, there was another mode of play called Combat Patrols, or 40k in 40 Minutes. Since then I haven't managed to find an updated rules-set for similarly small-scale games, so I figured with the release of 6th Edition I'd give it a go myself. Back in those days the point size for Combat Patrols was set at 400, but I felt that 500 may be a better size in this latest version of the game. With that in mind, I read through the rulebook and came up with the following changes to the main rules to better fit this small format:

Combat Patrol forces are 500-point-maximum, no Allies armies chosen from one in-print 40K Codex which *must* have at least one core Troops choice; the remainder of the Force Org can be chosen from a maximum of one HQ choice (maximum 2 Wounds, no 2+ Saves), vehicles with a maximum AV of 34 (adding Front, Rear and Side Armour [once]), and units which do not exceed 2 Wounds and do not include 2+ Saves. A Combat Patrol Commander figure must be identified; this will be the HQ choice if taken, or a unit leader otherwise. The HQ choice will be able to roll on the Warlord chart for this event if ordinarily eligible to do so. Fortifications *may* be chosen for this event as part of the player's 500 point force, as per V6 rules.

Each player’s Combat Patrol is limited to 500pts with a unique Force Allocation Chart:

0-1 HQ
1-3 Troops
0-1 Elite
0-1 Fast Attack
0-1 Heavy Support
0-1 Swing Slot (can be used as a bonus slot for any one other type)

So if you live in and around the Bangor area in Northern Ireland and you might be interested in taking part check out the events page on Facebook

So with all that in mind here is what I'm thinking of taking

+ HQ +

    * Big Mek
        Choppa, Shokk Attack Gun

+ Elites +

    * Lootas
        5x Loota

+ Troops +

    * Ork Boyz
        20x Boy Shoota
        * Nob
            Big Choppa, Bosspole

+ Fast Attack +

    * Dakkajet
        (Waagh! Plane)
        2 Twin-linked supa shootas, Additional twin-linked supa shoota

+ Heavy Support +

    * Big Gunz

ENCORE 1000pts Highlander Tournament My List

So this Saturday sees me going up to MAGEE CORE in Derry Northern Ireland for a 1 day 40K 1000pts Highlander tournaments, these tournament are becoming quite popular with the local players, as you're not allowed to duplicate any unit, and there is also some restrictions in regards to what you can take in your force organisation chart. And because it's at such a low pointed level, you can easily do 5 rounds in one day which makes you get more ranking points in RHQ.

Check out this post Dominion Day V Battle Report Game 1 & 2 to find out more as this is the second Highlander tournaments, I have attended recently with a mixed bag of results so all being well I'm hoping to do a little bit better this time around.

So this is what I'm deciding to bring

* HQ
    * Big Mek
        Bosspole, Choppa, Slugga

* Elites
    * Lootas
        15x Loota

* Nobz

        Painboy

            Choppa, Cybork Body (Grotsnik), Slugga, Warbike
        * Nob
            Big Choppa, Cybork Body (Grotsnik), Slugga, Warbike

            Big Choppa, Cybork Body (Grotsnik), Shoota/Scorcha Kombi-Weapon, Warbike
        * Nob
            Big Choppa, Bosspole, Cybork Body (Grotsnik), Slugga, Warbike
        * Nob
            Cybork Body (Grotsnik), Power Klaw, Slugga, Waagh Banner, Warbike

* Troops

    * Gretchin
        10x Gretchin
        * Runt Herder
            Grabba Stikk

    * Ork Boyz
        30x Boy
        * Nob

        * Big Gun
            2x Grot Krew, Kannon
        * Big Gun
            2x Grot Krew, Kannon

So there you have it, as always there's lots of potential but it largely depends on who I'm going to play on the day.

Dominion Day V Battle Report Game 1 & 2

So last week I attended Dominion Day at Arkham Gaming Centre and over the course of the jampacked 12 hours of gaming, I managed to squeeze in 5 games of 40K at 1000pts with a mixed bag of results.

So this is what I decided to take bearing in mind that there was some restrictions in regards to what you could take. you can see 40K HIGHLANDER Rules 1 Day 5 Round 1000pts Tournament for more info.

a

So the main focus of my army was to attack and attack fast I had two very mobile units which could very easily assault by turn 2 if I needed to.

    * Warboss (90pts)
        Bosspole (5pts), Power Klaw (25pts), Slugga

    * Kommandos (135pts)
        Boss Snickrot (85pts), 5x Kommando (50pts)

    * Nobz (Troops) (275pts)
        * Nob (45pts)
            Choppa, Slugga, Warbike (25pts)
        * Nob (50pts)
            Big Choppa (5pts), Slugga, Warbike (25pts)
        * Nob (55pts)
            Big Choppa (5pts), Shoota/Scorcha Kombi-Weapon (5pts), Warbike (25pts)
        * Nob (55pts)
            Big Choppa (5pts), Bosspole (5pts), Slugga, Warbike (25pts)
        * Nob (70pts)
            Power Klaw (25pts), Slugga, Warbike (25pts)

    * Ork Boyz (220pts)
        30x Boy (180pts)
        * Nob (40pts)
            Bosspole (5pts), Power Klaw (25pts)

    * Stormboyz (280pts)
        20x Stormboy (240pts)
        * Nob (40pts)
            Bosspole (5pts), Power Klaw (25pts)

 Also being able to play on a 4x4 having Boss Snickrot at my disposal to appear from anywhere with my war boss I was hoping to keep my opponents on their toes.

So how did it go well from the start it didn't exactly go to plan

Game 1 Pitch Battle.Capture and Control
Opponent Adam Sleinner Grey Nights
Result Draw  8 Battle Points

At the minute are always a hard matchup and I really did struggle considering I was up against Paladin terminators and purifiers which isn't exactly easy.

Alan list is pretty simple straightforward list.

 for my deployment it was important for me to pick the fights that I could win.

As you can see I made a dreadful mistake enabling my bikers to get assaulted in my opponents turn. Although my storm boys successfully wiped out his whole Paladin terminators: which was quite fun.

The dread night was devastating, his firepower was pretty effective all game
considering the matchup I was quite pleased with the draw.

Game 2  Spearhead Seize Ground 3 Objectives
Opponent  Scott Waring Orks
Result Loss 5 Battle Points

I really went into this game a lot more comfortable considering I know the Codex very well,and was very nearly taking something quite similar.

 scott list centred around 20 boys in a battlewagon and truck with some mega-armour nobs so all in all it was quite fast, and Boss Snickrot.

So it was important for me to play this one a little bit more defensive.

 I expected the scott ork it move forward as quick as possible towards me which in turn he did

 he too was also runing Boss Snickrot and on turn 2 successfully rolled his reserves.

 looking back another mistake letting my nob bikers getting assaulted which as you can see it wasn't going to plan and like in  game 1 these mistakes were costing me dear, as I wasn't using their mobility properly.

I also took the decision to assault his 10 Gretchen that were holding his objective which would mean that the boys inside the battlewagon would have a choice to make whether to move forward or to go back to hold it.

At the very end it was going quite well as I was playing for another draw but to no avail, it came down to my objective being contested by a enemy death copter in the final turn which meant a loss.

Not exactly the best start you can have at a tournament but hopefully in game 3 I would get something a little bit each lucky in regards to my opponent something nice and soft.

So there you have it.

A Tool For Quickly Creating Army Rosters BattleScribe 1.12.00b Released!

I thought this might be of interest it's a very handy tool and I use it myself so download it and have a go. BattleScribe is a tool for quickly creating army rosters for your favourite wargames. It calculates your points total and lets you know whether or not your choices are valid, and then allows you to view a useful summary of your roster including profiles and rules. Welcome to BattleScribe.net! to see for you self.

Sep 28, 2011
And here's the latest version of BattleScribe, with a nice bunch of improvements including the most requested item on the UserVoice page. There are a couple of UI improvements and you also get a side-by-side layout when viewing/printing rosters. That's something people have been after for a while. It could do with further improvement, but it's a start.

For those of you who edit data files, I've added modifiers to profiles so you can change the values of characteristics based on the selections you make in your roster. All distinct profiles (each varient of a modified one, and the original if present) are shown in the summary and marked with what they are modified by. I also thought I'd do the same for rules whilst I was at it.
Without further ado, here's the full change list.

Release Notes:

Alternative layout in view/print roster, with the army's units and profiles/rules laid out side-by-side. Choose the view you want from the Layout Options menu.
The minimum points value of entries is now shown in the left-hand tree so you can see how much something costs before you select it.
Rules summaries are not displayed in view/print roster unless they have a description.
Profiles can now have modifiers, allowing you to change characteristic values based on your selections (eg. Mark of Nurgle gives you +1 Toughness).
Profiles will have their names changed based on what selections of modifiers, so for the above case "Chaos Lord (Mark of Nurgle)" would be listed in the profile summary.
Rules can also have modifiers to change their names/descriptions.
Added Spikey Bits as an affiliate
The new installer will not overwrite your settings file, so you will not loose your saved data repositories on upgrade.
BattleScribe will no-longer crash if the settings file is missing or broken - it will just create a new one.
The selected affiliate in the menu bar will now be randomly shown. If the button is clicked, or you select your preferred affiliate from the drop-down, this one will always be shown.
Android Specific:

Fixed a nasty bug that prevented BattleScribe from downloading game systems from repositories and showed an error message.

1750 Ork Dread Bash For Assault On Arkham.

So in a few weeks I'll be heading off to  Assault on Arkham 40k tournament, and I'm hopeful that I will do a better than last time, considering I came last. So with that in mind I have decided to park my battlewagons and go for a simple option.

Event Details
Arkham Gaming Centre is proud to host this Warhammer 40K tournament, run in conjunction with Jonny Fisher. This 2 day ranking 1750 point tournament will allow the best 40K players in Ireland North & South to make war across the tabletop.

From the very outset I wanted to try and keep it as simple as possible, and I think I have done this quite well, although it would be interesting to see if you guys have any feedback or suggestions, that I need to incorporate or change into the list.

The Only Way Is Up After The Arkham 40k Tournament

So over the weekend I went to another tournament and unfortunately came last, with a mixed bag of results, so I find myself asking the question why and where did it all go so wrong, I think from the very start I felt that the list I was taking wasn't right, I can only describe it as overcooked it tried too hard to do too many things which in the end made me pay in most of my games. Also having no firepower at my disposal definitely was a major weakness.

Below is the list that I took and although 6 battlewagons looks good on paper on the tabletop where it counts it really did struggle.

HQ [1] Wazdakka Gutsmek (180pts)
once again he looks good on paper but he struggled all weekend with his shooting overall definitely a major mistake over and normal war boss on bike

HQ [2] Big Mek Choppa, Kustom Force Field (50pts) [85pts]

Elite [1] Meganobz (40*3), combi-skorcha (5) [125] in transport 1

Elite [2] Meganobz (40*3), combi-skorcha (5) [125] in transport 2

Elite [3] Meganobz (40*3), combi-skorcha (5) [125] in transport 3
with points being tight not arming them with their rockets meant they were easily killed in combat

Troop [1] Ork boyz with choppa and slugga(6*18), nob upgrade (10), power klaw (25), boss pole (5) [148]

Troop [2] Ork boyz with choppa and slugga(6*18), nob upgrade (10), power klaw (25), boss pole (5) [148]

Troop [3] Ork boyz with shootas (6*17 [102]
once again performed very poor with not having its own nob and power claw

Troop [5] Gretchin (3*10), runtherd (10) [40]

HS[1] Battlewagon (90), big shoota (5), deff rolla (20) [115]

HS [2] Battlewagon (90), big shoota (5), deff rolla (20) [115]

HS [3] Battlewagon (90), big shoota (5), [95]
The 6 battlewagon turned out to be a complete waste of points

Transport [1] battlewagon (90), big shoota (5), deff rolla (20) elites 1 [115]

Transport [2] battlewagon (90), big shoota (5), deff rolla (20) elites 2 [115]

Transport [3] battlewagon (90), big shoota (5), deff rolla (20) elites 2 [115]

So overall I think I learnt a lot and in some ways it definitely brings my game back down to earth, but there is still positives I can take overall.

Although with 1 win and 4 losses were do I find the positives and it's very simple in each of my games that I lost there was a stage where, I felt I could have easily won but it just simply ran out of steam it couldn't stand up with some of the newer books, and the spam vehicle killing ones definitely devastated my army in most of my games that I lost.

Don't get me wrong battlewagon brigade is still a very strong list and I have not lost faith in the concept, it's just 6 battlewagons is a overstretch.

So what makes this list different well for a start it includes 6 battlewagons at its disposal and 5 scoring units that can successfully hold objectives, also includes a war boss on bike which I think will give me the edge late in the game

Below you'll find some of my most recent purchases.....more rogue trader battle wagons! You can check out the link below to see the ones I have already finished.

as I know how to do them now and I am really pleased as to how they have turned out!

I have learnt that I love rogue trader battle wagons more as they are great! The model itself has not dated at all as it was out in the early 90's and I am still in love with it.

1500 Dark Angels Deathwing List 2011

So with the current changes to their book there seems to be a revival in 1500pt Dark Angels Deathwing lists, and to that effect I recently came across this one online.

For me the reason why it stands out is the use of bikes and plenty of them at that, and with 4 units of terminators on the tabletop to do deal with, and at such a low point level, it definitely poses a threat to all enemies it comes across.

Recently helped to came up with this list on Dakka Dakka 750 Orks for 40k beginner event
and thought it might be very effective considering the low point level, and most opponents would find it difficult. to deal with considering its in-your-face by turn 2.
