Updating Hero Quest Against the Ogre Horde miniatures

So for those that don't already know, over the last couple of months I've been spending my time updateing my hero Quest collection, and to start things off I would like to share some of the progress that I have done with my Ogre's, from the MB supplement Against the Ogre Horde, that was released many years ago.

Looking at the miniature's now, there are a little bit out of date, but fear not with a little bit of work I will have them looking brand-new. The conversions work is just simply using the new Ogre models that were released by GW only recently, and they seem to fit very well.

Above and below are my new Ogre Warriors.

Above a Ogre chieftain in all his glory.

Ogre Champion with his new base.

And no right respecting Ogre clan would go without it's very own Ogre Lord. So with this post the pictures really do speak for themselves, and if you have any questions just simply drop me a line until then.

Hero Quest, The Game That Started It All For Me.

So from the very start this post isn't about educating the world, it is just me talking about what started it all off. And if you've ever played/owned a copy of the game then you'll know exactly what I'm going to talk about, and for those that don't then hopefully you might go and get yourself one, as you can still pick them up on eBay for next to nothing, and there is no better tool at your disposal if you have children. it's perfect to introduce them to hobby gaming.

So I'm going to set the scene away back in 1989 when times was grey, and everything seemed very depressed, until this arrived with a TV advert. So from that second I knew it had to be mine, and within a few days it was a day trip to Belfast city centre with my mum, where it had to be purchased. Over time, I managed to collect all the supplements, and  looking back you probably wouldn't have that much long-term interest from modern-day kids, but back then it was slightly different for me as there is no such thing as a computer game.

My 2 sons are eager to get things underway
Which takes me to today as my 2 young sons are getting old enough for me to play with them and that's something I'm going to do more often as we have decided that we're going to work our way through all the books one by one. So with that in mind, I finally decided that I'm going to update and paint all the models from this classic age board game. So check out my pics to see what progress I have made so far and no game would be complete without the heroes taking centre stage.

I have decided to keep everything more colourful after all you're trying to appeal to kids.

After all you cannot forget about the HQ furniture which makes the game looks so well.

I am going to look at eBay to see if I can get some of the classic 1980 Citadel miniatures, as I think they will be perfect and fit nicely with the overall theme.

So there you have it my little trip down memory you know what so in time. I will be updating my progress of what I'm currently working on and who knows some of you guys might pick up a copy. It's not always about the big game's like WFB and 40k that enable you to get your hobby kick.

So hopefully in time you will be inspired to get your set.

Are my orks going to be a wrecking ball in 6th edition.

Honestly, I think time will tell, if they got quite a bit better in the jump from 5th to 6th. Sure, they lost out on some of their nastier tricks (Kommandos off the back board edge have been a thorn in everyone's side in my local gaming group), but they also got a ton of boosts:  plus it will give me an opportunity to finish off some projects that have been lying dormant for a while, and time to start new ones.

So let's look at what things currently stand out.

1. Bikes get toughness 5 as a base value now, Nob Bikers can take all kinds of punishment (a lot of guns just became way, way less useful for dealing with them)

2. Minor point, but Nobz in general became cheaper and easier to manage since wound shenanigans no longer requires differentiated wargear

3. Orks became the kings of snapshots, since the entire army is based around putting out a ton of shots at low BS - a squad of Lootas or Shootas getting overwatch is a terrifying sight to behold

4. Big Guns are now very, very durable, and with Kans becoming fairly lackluster, Ork players might have a new unit to fill up Heavy support slots.

5. Dakkajet is a flyer. 'Nuff said.

Honestly, what's made me happy about all this is that in terms of cover saves, every army has been brought up to the Orks' level. No more 4+ saves spammed across the board, everyone and their mother has to deal with having only a 5+ save, which the Orks have had to live with for years. While it's true that Orks did get hurt a bit by the assault rules (though really, people make way more fuss about overwatch than I think they should),

I think the new edition really opened up a lot of options that just weren't very viable back in 5th. Lootas, Nob Bikers, Big Guns, and of course the Dakkajet being a flyer made the Ork codex a real force to be reckoned with. So ultimately in time I will tell you all about it when I get a few more game's under my belt.

My New Warboss And Nob Biker Conversions Part 2

Well it looks like the end is near in sight, and the unit is about 90% complete and I have made a few changes, to a couple of things. So I wonder who's going to be the first one to notice what they are.
I think this is the best bit of the hobby that I really like, is when you start to see your project come to life as it's nearing completion, because for some strange reason it all seems to come together.

 –

I have also expanded the nob squad to 7 which I'm hoping to have ready for my next tournament.

I originally did a different banner but I think this one is more in keeping with the unit over all.

From the back you can never have too many trophies, that's what it's all about, although I don't know why he has a spanner as if, he would fix anything anyway.

I decided to add another PK to the unit as it will give much needed punch, in CC.

I've also added the units pain boy and his saw is probably the best bit.

And if you have any project yourselves that you need help with by all means make contact.

My FORGE WORLD Dakkajet Part 4 How To Make It A Little Bit More Unique, and I am nearly finished

So I thought it was about time that I uploaded some more pic's, of what progress I have made over the last couple of days, and as you see it is definitely coming along.

From start to finish the project has been really enjoyable and he is starting to come to life, so hopefully you will agree and check out the pictures.

These are actually Forge world fuel tanks that a very good friend of mine give me, not so long ago. So they have definitely come in handy.

The big man himself in all his glory, I'm really looking forward to getting him painted up.

I decided to add a some plastic card around the cockpit as there was gaps showing.

So I think he's nearly finished and in my next post and going to start painting. I haven't quite decided what colour he is going to be but I'm sure whatever it is he's going to stand out.

My FORGE WORLD Dakkajet Part 3 How To Make It A Little Bit More Unique.

So over the last few days I have managed to spend a little bit more time on this bad boy. Hopefully I will get him finished in the next couple of weeks.

As you can see I'm quite a fan of using wiremesh as it definitely keeps with the overall ork look. I've also added a couple more bits of plastic card, which in turn make's the model a little bit more unique.

I'm really pleased the way the guns have turned out

Still a little bit more work to do in regards to it's stand, so hopefully I'll be able to show more progress soon.

So there you have it, I'm going to be on the lookout on eBay for another Forge world model, as there's something about it I really like.
